One of the best ways to learn is to interact with people who try new avenues in learning. The students of History pedagogy had an enriching time interacting with Ms Natasha Punnoose,  teacher at Mount Mary's High School, Mumbai. Natasha answered all queries fielded by the participants and willingly shared how she uses various tech tools to teach. She elucidated how a teacher can plan and prepare purposefully to render effective teaching learning experiences. Natasha is a History teacher who wields the camera effectively and creates videos on architectural wonders which then serve as dynamic resources to teach History.

Visit to Vasai Fort

Visit to Alibag Fort

The Alibag Fort is about 2 km into the sea and is accessible during low tide. On 1 April 2016, we had a wonderful time exploring the Fort and learning about its significance. The Fort was one of the chief naval stations of Shivaji Maharaj. It was built to combat the attacks by foreigners like the British, the Potuguese and the siddis who attacked the Maratha kingdom from the sea.  In 1713, the Peshwa handed it over to Kanhoji Angre who used it to raid British ships. A joint attack by the British and the Portuguese  to conquer the fort was  a failure. Inside the fort are fresh water wells, something that surprised us given the fact that the fort is in the midst of the sea.

A day well spent at the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, Alibag

On 1 April 2016, we visited the Indian Institute of Geo Magnetism, also called the Alibag Observatory . Mr Anand Bhingare and Mr Anoop  showed us how daily recordings of temperature, humidity etc are taken. This centre is also the place where magnetic compasses are calibrated. We saw the Variometer Room and other places. The Observatory is more than hundred years old and has an uninterrupted data of geomagnetic observations of more than hundred years.  It was a unique experience to see how the various instruments in this place record and monitor geomagnetic activities. Thank you Bhingare Sir and Anoop Sir for the enlightening interaction.
